I like bananas!

And I like them best when they are coated in chocolate and sprinkled with slivered almonds and coconut - yum!  On a whim, I decided to have David help me make frozen bananas this evening.  I expected to have to wait until tomorrow to eat them, but the chocolate worked like magic shell on the already-frozen bananas.  So we enjoyed our sweet (and messy) treat on the front porch before bedtime.  I'm looking forward to trying out the cousin of the frozen banana while camping next week.

The Goldfuss Family Can Moo, Can You?

We happily celebrated Cow Appreciation Day by donning our spots and heading off to free meals at Chick-Fil-A.  It is days like today that make me so glad I'm a mom - I can get away with crazy stunts like this if I'm doing it with my kids.  It makes me feel like a camp counselor all over again, and I love it!

Strawberry Picking

This afternoon, while Lida was enjoying a visit at Aunt Christy's house, David and I went strawberry picking.  The fields were full of perfectly ripe berries and we managed to pick 10 lbs. before the rain started.  David did a good job of finding the red, non-mushy berries, but I think he enjoyed the tractor-pulled wagon ride to and from the field most.  He also spent more time taking pictures than he did picking berries.  I'll spare you the many pictures he got of me bent over picking berries from behind and show you two of his better shots instead:

Little Chef

Between the CSA box and our own plants, we've had an abundance of tomatoes in our house lately, so today we decided to make some sauce to freeze.

The three of us had a good time cooking together and making a huge mess of the kitchen. David's job was to peel the tomatoes, and he took it very seriously. He removed the skins from those tomatoes faster than I could get them over to the table. When he was done with that, he proceeded to "cook" some of the tomatoes in a pot on the table.

For about a year now, he has really loved to pretend cook, so I'm not surprised that he enjoyed today's sauce-making so much. It looks like we might have a future chef in our kitchen.

Guess who's two!

Mixing up cake batter, a picnic in the park, rock climbing, rainbow cake, cousins...what a perfect 2nd birthday!

Thanksgiving Snack-tacular

The short days have begun to wear on us. After dinner, Keith and I look at each other and at the clock and say, "what are we going to do with this kid for another two hours?" If it were summer, we'd go for a walk or a bike ride or at least play in the yard, but when it's dark at 6:00 PM, our options are limited.

A few evenings ago, we decided to make the most of our late-fall evening family time by doing something fun and productive...an activity, if you will. I had seen the idea for these little Thanksgiving treat bags in a magazine and bought all the supplies to make them with David. Now when I say "with David," I am fully aware of what that would mean in reality. David would scoop one load of pretzels, miss the bag, dump them on the floor, and then catch sight of the candy corn and spend the rest of "activity time" snacking while I filled all the bags.

I have to say though, I was pleasantly surprised by what happened. David stood on a chair and carefully filled eleven bags with snacks. He did so with great concentration (so much so that he didn't even both to taste the goodies until at least half the bags were filled). Of course, he spilled some and took great pleasure in letting us know each time ("uh-oh, uh-oh"), but overall he did an amazing job.

When the bags were finished, I asked him who we should give them to. His answer? You guessed it....Papa....and Tutu.

Happy to make my own cake

...with my birthday gift from Keith & Dave.
29, huh? Good thing I have ten more years to be immature.

There's a Party in My Tummy!

David started solids about a month ago. A large amount of the rice cereal ends up on his face, but we like to think some of it makes it down to his belly where it rocks out Yo Gabba Gabba style.
